Emotions and Drama

Finally Trio went live. Late in September, we spent the evening on Delta Blvd. loading our code into production. Then we went home, around 10 am and I slept until almost 4. When I got up, I learned there was an issue... memory leak. This affected the accuracy of the data... and that's not good. A couple weeks later a break-fix went through, and since then, we have gotten more positive feedback than negative.

After the release, I spent the weekend with my family, which included Rosh Ha'Shana. I got some recipes from Ima and posted them in my blog.

The Tragedy

The last week of October, my colleague, Rick Lawhorn, died after a fatal stroke. Nobody saw it coming. He was out at a party on Thursday, his usual self in the office Friday, invited another colleague into his LinkedIn on Saturday. And had a massive stroke late Saturday or early Sunday, lost consciousness on the way to the hospital, and had no brain activity by late Sunday. Pronounced dead on Monday.

Rick had an easy smile, generous personality, and brought out the best in people. He was passionate about programming, Delta and Habitat for Humanity.

For all Rick did at Delta, I connected with him when we spoke one day about his family. Rick was the oldest of six kids. He had four daughters, his oldest is my age. Her name is Ingrid. He was so proud of all his kids for their accomplishments. And yet, so modest! Rick is already missed, and we have a major legacy to fulfill.
