Milwaukee is beautiful... who knew?
I sucked up the cost and inconvenience to fly out to Milwaukee for Renee and Alex's engagement party. So glad I did! I had a chance to meet a lot of Renee and Alex's friends, and people with Midwestern accents making fun of the way I speak!
Good times! Milwaukee has only about 2-3 months of nice weather, and I came at the right time. Sunny and warm, with a cooling breeze from Lake Michigan. We survived a tornado, though it barely rained.
The architecture and culture really struck me. Not that it was necessarily special, but I had never known it was there. Almost every weekend during this "nice" time frame, there is a festival, "or some other excuse to go outside." We went window shopping on Brady, where there are a lot of small shops and boutiques.
There are also a lot of independent restaurants. Friday we stopped in to Alterra on the River, a local coffee shop chain with the usual fare. That night, we had dinner at a place called Balzac, with delicious food, tons of wine options, great atmosphere... and yet you never hear about Milwaukee's chefs or cuisine!
In a sense, Milwaukee is overshadowed by Chicago. But I have to say, Milwaukee is much more approachable.
Architecture was all over the place... from ancient Greek styles to modern high rises. Some buildings were dilapidated, some were historical. The Milwaukee scenery album shows the variety.
Kickball has ended. My Pilates series has ended. We have a new yoga instructor.
Draft on Taft was the last day of May. Sam Thacker and Ocean Street played, have not seen them in a long time!
Screen on the Green every Thursday, now at Centennial Olympic Park because the drought has made Piedmont Park off limits to large groups of people.
Quick trip to DC for blue crabs, DCU, and Pearl Jam... it will be fun, but crazy, and I will not have the chance to see all my peeps, but it is probably better for me not to spread myself thin!
It's good to be busy!
